Yes, it’s quite possible to become excited about kitchen appliances. One of my essential appliances is a fuzzy-logic, rice cooker with a manual button for rice porridge.
For one thing, the rice cooker ‘thinks’ for itself. So if I’ve added too much water or not enough, it will adjust temperature and heating time to create rice that’s “just right.” With the porridge setting I can make jook with the push of a button before bed, and wha-lah, in the morning it’s breakfast!
If I’ve planned ahead, I can start the rice an hour before dinner is made and it will be ready when I’ve finished cooking, or if there isn’t much time, the rice can be cooked fast in 20 minutes.
